German Roots Run Deep in New Braunfels
and so Does the German Dancing
It all started with an idea. In 1977 city leaders and the New Braunfels Independent School District founded Kinder Tänzer. They had one vision in mind for this newly established group: share the love and skills of traditional German dance with the youth of the communiy.
Children from Seele Elementary School would perform at Wurstfest and the Comal Count Fair. Thousands of children passed through the program learning traditional German dances.
Sue Schwab taught for 25 years and retired in 2011 and Kinder Tänzer no longer had a connection with the public school system. Due to dedicated volunteers it was able to continue.
In 2023 the reins were handed off to Cullen Ricks, who brought new vision to the group. When he took over there were only 8 children in the program, in 2025 there were 86 children in the program. Kinder Tänzer of New Braunfels continues to grow and spreads the love of German Dance wherever they go!
